Potter Anderson & Corroon Attorney to Address Scientific Community at Conference in Greece Janet E. Reed to discuss patenting and commercializing of academic inventions June 29, 2010
Janet E. Reed, partner and leader of Potter Anderson & Corroon’s patent prosecution practice, will be participating in the 7th International Conference on Innate Immunity being held in Ixia, Greece, July 4 through 9, 2010.
Dr. Reed focuses her legal practice on patents related to biotechnological inventions in medicine, agriculture and environmental sciences. She has 10 years of laboratory experience in biochemistry, molecular biology and plant physiology/pathology. Dr. Reed received her J.D., with honors, from Rutgers Camden School of Law, her Ph.D. from Rutgers University, her M.S. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and B.A. from Sonoma State University.
The program has been organized by Dr. John D. Lambris, one of the world’s foremost authorities on the complement system, and the Dr. Ralph and Sallie Weaver Professor of Research Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Speakers from around the world will be discussing significant issues related to innate immunity – the cells and mechanisms that provide us with a general defense from infection by other organisms. Dr. Reed was invited to discuss with attendees the need and the process for protecting intellectual property resulting from research innovation. She will address practical considerations that are important to the university investigator. In addition she will engage the attendees in a discussion of why it is important for academic institutions to participate in the patent process, as a vehicle to bring the fruits of basic research to the public as commercial products.
“I am looking forward to being enmeshed once again in the scientific community where I spent a considerable amount of time before moving to the legal side of the aisle. There is a unique excitement generated at events of this nature, and I am certainly pleased to be invited to participate,” said Dr. Reed.
