Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, Inc. Honors David Brown with Founders Award November 2007
We are pleased to announce that David B. Brown, Potter Anderson’s Chairman, has received the Founders Award from Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, Inc. (DVLS). He and fellow co-founders, John C. Andrade and Joseph A. Rosenthal, were honored at the DVLS’ 25th Anniversary Celebration held on November 8th at the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington.
Incorporated in 1981, DVLS is an organization of volunteer attorneys who provide quality pro bono legal services to indigent Delawareans with meritorious civil legal problems.
Mr. Brown has vigorously campaigned to provide equal justice for all as a co-founder and one of the first board members of DVLS. In 1984, Mr. Brown became Board President and embarked on a number of major changes and program expansions. He spearheaded the effort to move DVLS to Widener University School of Law and for the past twenty five years has tirelessly championed the rights of the indigent. Mr. Brown served as Board President of DVLS for over 12 years, from 1984 through 1996, and continues to serve on the Board.
Mr. Brown is active in serving community and charitable organizations. In addition to his work with DVLS, he also serves on the boards of Planned Parenthood of Delaware, Delaware Hospice, Inc. and the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce. In the past, he has served a number of other organizations as a Board member or volunteer.
Mr. Brown has been honored with the Governor’s Volunteer of the Year Award, the Distinguished Service Award from Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, the Alexis de Tocqueville Society Award for outstanding volunteerism, leadership and vision and the Gerald E. Kandler Award from the American Civil Liberties Union and Foundation of Delaware for outstanding leadership in the cause of civil liberties in Delaware.
